When it's over no one cares what you did

Any day above ground is a good day. Before you complain about anything, be thankful for your life and the things that are still going well.

The time to build your future is in your teenage years and your 20s, but equally, in your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.

Pushing them (children) into a career that is __ractical_/ __afe_/ prestigious/ well-paying doesn__ count as help. It__ how parents satisfy their own needs.

It__ a mistake to believe that they (parents) are responsible for their children__ best future. This responsibility is on their children, and that__ the message they should be conveying to their children on a daily basis.

We grow up in a belief system according to which children should always make their parents proud and happy (instead of making themselves proud and happy) - and that__ unfortunately the belief system in most cultures.

That__ not our role here, provide our parents with a __uccess story_ to share at gatherings. Our role here is to contribute the best we can to the society. Use our talents and make sure we add the greatest value possible to other people__ lives.

They keep telling you, when you__e older, you__l have experience__nd that__ supposed to be so great. What would you say about that, sir? Is it really any use, would you say?""What kind of experience?___ell__laces you__e been to, people you__e met. Situations you__e been through already, so you know how to handle them when they come up again. All that stuff that__ supposed to make you wise, in your later years.___et me tell you something, Kenny. For other people, I can__ speak__ut, personally, I haven__ gotten wise on anything. Certainly, I__e been through this and that; and when it happens again, I say to myself, Here it is again. But that doesn__ seem to help me. In my opinion, I, personally, have gotten steadily sillier and sillier and sillier__nd that__ a fact.___o kidding, sir? You can__ mean that! You mean, sillier than when you were young?___uch, much sillier._____l be darned. Then experience is no use at all? You__e saying it might just as well not have happened?___o. I__ not saying that. I only mean, you can__ use it. But if you don__ try to__f you just realize it__ there and you__e got it__hen it can be kind of marvelous.

None of us has an obligation to accept the definitions of __espect_ and __ratitude_ our parents espoused, especially when those definitions can be used to guilt-trip us, or when they are being used for the purpose of forcing us to do certain things (as an extortion mechanism).

Rule 1: Be kind.Rule 2: Don't be a doormat when they step on you.Kindness and sticking up for yourself go hand in hand if you want happiness.
