calm

I lay there with my mind running amuck, on the brink of madness. And somehow, gradually, early Sunday morning, I became calm. I can't think of any other word for it. I was thinking about the beach poem again, and I started to feel that I was being looked after, that everything was OK. It was strange: if there was ever a time in my life when I had the right to feel alone this was it. But I lost that sense of loneliness. I felt like there was a force in the room with me, not a person, but I had a sense that there was another world, another dimension, and it would be looking after me. It was like, "This isn't the only world, this is just one aspect of the whole thing, don't imagine this is all there is.

To be at peace, does not mean that you are amiss of every storm, it only means that you can find a calm within the storm.

Gentleness is strength under control. It is the ability to stay calm, no matter what happens.

If you remain calm in the midst of great chaos, it is the surest guarantee that it will eventually subside.

The soul-sacred strength is calmness and confidence.

In great humility, we find our strength.

In calmness and confidence, thy strength manifest.

It is the nature of physics to hear the loudest of mouths over the most comprehensive ones.

Hope had finally learned to live in the present. Often, when she found herself in a space of tremendous comfort, usually out in nature, or when her children were safe all around her and on the verge of going to bed, she forced herself to take stock. If we find ourselves in unfamiliar circumstance, what do we do? We ought to keep calm and pray.

Renewed mind and rejuvenate sacred-spirit.

We do not content ourselves with the life we have in ourselves and in our own being; we desire to live an imaginary life in the mind of others, and for this purpose we endeavour to shine. We labour unceasingly to adorn and preserve this imaginary existence, and neglect the real. And if we possess calmness, or generosity, or truthfulness, we are eager to make it known, so as to attach these virtues to that imaginary existence. We would rather separate them from ourselves to join them to it; and we would willingly be cowards in order to acquire the reputation of being brave. A great proof of the nothingness of our being, not to be satisfied with the one without the other, and to renounce the one for the other! For he would be infamous who would not die to preserve his honour.
