Silence is only awkward if one cannot feel a connection with the other.

Words were few and failing between them as though the silence that sat with them had laid its old lips on theirs and sucked them dry of speech. For where could one begin? With the weather? But here there was no weather. These few sad rooms were the old man's world. His horizons were all walls.

It__ even more awkward when we__e face to face with people. It used to be exciting to make plans with friends because you could sit and catch up and talk about what__ been going on in your lives. Now when you see someone there__ nothing left to say. You__e already seen the pictures from their trip to Rio on Facebook. You__e read their tweets about the latest diet they__e on. And they already texted you about the pregnancy scare. So you end up just sitting and staring at each other until you both start texting other people.

There was a silence. Elliot was surprised, because he would have thought the sound of every atom in his body exploding with indignation might make some noise.
