Virginia screamed, grabbing for the door handle and nearly throwing herself from the moving car. James swerved to the side of the road, slamming on the brakes before she killed herself trying to escape. As it was, she flung herself from the car, falling to her knees and scrambling to her feet. Then she ran. Took off like a bolt until she rounded the bend and disappeared from view. 'Way to go, slick,' AJ said snarkily, climbing into the front seat. 'You ran her off.

Shaking it off, Terri narrowed her eyes and whirled around, jabbing a red lacquered nail into his powder blue polo. __ack off,_ she warned, snatching her arm back. Will that be all?_ I asked the pimply faced teen who ogled my exposed legs as if in heat. My pen tapped impatiently on the notepad while I waited for him to look up. Slowly his dull grey eyes roved over my body and a limp smile drew up his thin, crusted lips making him look more weasel than human. __ep. That__ be it,_ his cheerful, adolescent voice cracked.__reat,_ I mumbled, walking back behind the counter.

Faerie Tales: The Misfortune of a Teenage Socialite

"

Sitting down on the stairs, Cheyenne watched Behr through the slats in the railing. She liked what she saw. Covered in a fine sheen of perspiration, muscles swollen from what was clearly a grueling workout, Behr__ toned physique was a serious distraction from her worries, making her content to just sit and watch. Each thump of his fist into the bag resonated in her bones. Each kick of his leg thundered in her ears. Every move seemed to be in time with the harsh sounds of the music pumping through the room, until he was a frenzy of movement. It was frighteningly beautiful. Standing, Cheyenne called out to him. __ehr? Are you hungry?_ She was feeling a little peckish herself, and she needed something to keep her hands busy. Between a combination of brutal punches, knee jabs and the music, Behr didn__ hear a word she said. So she decided to go to him. Winding her way through equipment and stepping over the discarded sweaty T-shirt, Cheyenne approached him. Waiting for the right moment to interrupt, she tapped him on the shoulder during a brief pause. Big mistake. Huge.

She was prepared for him to shut her down, when Behr shrugged a shoulder and said, __eah, sounds good. I think it__ a good idea for you to get out of the house. But,_ he said, stepping back into the kitchen and leveling her with a hard look, __nly if I tag along._ __hat? Why?_ Cheyenne questioned, not understanding the need for chaperones. __ecause it__ safer that way,_ he reasoned. __ have a couple things to take care of first, so it will probably be a day or two. I expect you to wait for me, though, Cheyenne,_ he said, his brilliant blue eyes holding her in place. __t__ safer that way.__he was preparing to argue when she realized that she wasn__ altogether sure she wanted to venture out on her own yet anyway. It might be a shock to her system after locking herself away for so long. For laughs, she decided to give him a hard time anyway. __ut_ she started. He cut her off with an upraised hand. __o buts,_ he said sternly. __t__ not safe and you know it, and besides, that__ what you have two strapping young men like us for._ He clapped a grinning Dehstroy on the back. Cheyenne threw her head back and laughed. __ou, young? Ha!___hat?_ Behr said, acting offended. ____ young.___rove it,_ Cheyenne challenged. __how me your birth certificate._ When he pursed his lips, she laughed some more. __hat__ wrong? Didn__ they make birth certificates yet when you were born? No?_ She looked between the men, taking in their sheepish expressions. __ell, then. I__l leave you two to work on clearing that schedule._ Waving, Cheyenne left the kitchen and headed upstairs to her room to lie down.

Wes sat in a cracked vinyl booth picking at his fries and listening to Amanda go on and on about the dress she'd found. '...and it has these little lavender bows. Oh, Wes, I can't wait 'til you see it.' She gesticulated wildly, and her only saving grace right now was her amazing rack that swayed and bounced with each movement. Sometimes he swore that was the only reason he ever looked crosswise at Amanda Price. That, and her daddy's checkbook. 'And I found these shoes--" 'Uh huh, that's nice,' he cut her off and slid free from the booth. He held out his hand. 'Got the card?' He waved the bill in the air at her questioning gaze. Was she a little cross-eyed, maybe? He thought so.
