Evenings were peaceful, smoke settling in the quiet air to soften the dusk, lights twinkling on the ridge we would camp on tomorrow, clouds dimming the outline of our pass for the day after. Growing excitement lured my thoughts again and again to the West Ridge_.There was loneliness, too, as the sun set, but only rarely now did doubts return. Then I felt sinkingly as if my whole life lay behind me. Once on the mountain I knew (or trusted) that this would give way to total absorption with the task at hand. But at times I wondered if I had not come a long way only to find what I really sought was something I had left behind.

This was once Mazama, I kept reminding myself. This was once a mountain that stood nearly 12,000 feet tall and then had its heart removed. This was once a wasteland of lava and pumice and ash. This was once an empty bowl that took hundreds of years to fill. But hard as I tried, I couldn't see them in my mind's eye. Not the mountain or the wasteland or the empty bowl. They simply were not there anymore. There was only the stillness and the silence of that water: what a mountain and a wasteland and an empty bowl turned into after the healing process.

The power of such a mountain is so great and yet so subtle that, without compulsion, people are drawn to it from near and far, as if by the force of some invisible magnet_this worshipful or religious attitude is not impressed by scientific facts, like figures of altitude, which are foremost in the mind of modern man. Nor is it motivated by the urge to __onquer_ the mountain.

It's easy to convince men to love you, Puck. All you have to do is be a mountain they have to climb or a poem they don't understand. Something that makes them feel strong or clever. It's why they love the ocean.

It takes wisdom, power and influence to be able to make a positive impact on what goes on in society and in the nation as a whole.

In the pursuit of wholeness, there will surely be challenges but you need to keep going.

Be prepared to be on the race to fulfill and to achieve fulfillment.

A life that is actually lived is one that is with significance.

When you have discovered your significance, your life will now begin to move towards making a difference.

It is a good thing to live long but it is much more important to make a difference in life by living a life of significance.

When you live for the purpose of making a difference for the people, for society, for the things that are beyond you, then significance will not be able to elude you.

When what you are insulted by meets what you have a strong desire to do, then that would bring you significance.
