When I took over as chair of the fashion program, I was horrified that only the faculty member was allowed to speak in a critique. I'm talking about perfectly nurturing teachers. But the rule was there would be no call of hands for students to contribute their feedback. It was embedded in the department's culture. That was alarming to me. When I was teaching, I was the least important person in the room as far as I was concerned--my students' points of view mattered most. I wanted to learn who they were and teach them to respect one another's perspectives.I would start off by saying something like, "I am having trouble understanding how this work solves the problem at hand. Here are some things about the work that I appreciate: X, Y, Z. But I see these virtues independent of the problem we're solving.

He who frowns when they say that he sucks shouldn__ smile when they say that he rocks.

If EXCELLENCE is one of your values, not only you self-critic and evaluate your performance consistently, you BEG others for honest feedback...

If you respect & care about someone, give him/her direct feedback in his/her face. Please don't be coward and use proxies! Be a man/woman!!!

If you reject feedback, you also reject the choice of acting in a way that may bring you abundant success.

Policy was not reconsidered because the governing group had no habit of purposeful consultation.

The people who care about you may not tell you your blind spots fearing to offend/hurt you. Open up and ask their feedback and get enlightened.

Some say Twitter is overrated.Some love it, others hate it.I guess it depends on what you've got,If you have guts to write a funny plot!

The culture the leader creates impacts the feedback a leader receives.
