The out-dated imagery of sitting over a dusty typewriter staring at blank pages for years is a fallacy and probably designed to keep you from living up to your fullest potential.

To become a writer a person must read constantly, the more varied the writers and their material then all the better. One must also have a lot of life experience, travel to exotic locations and live among the local people. Yet most importantly a writer needs the determination to keep at their writing regardless of what others might say or think about it

Artists shouldn't wait until they are told what their art should be, they shouldn't follow trends or allow other people to influence their work, an artist should only create from the strongest emotions within their heart

And this is what being an artist means, being a poet? To sacrifice yourself for your art, sacrifice your heart for your art, because it__ only through something broken that something beautiful can grow.

A writer illuminates the lights of her heart so that everyone can see themselves in the mirror of her thoughts.

She swallowed the ridicule & washed it down with criticism, It was far sweeter than the taste of obscurity.

Being a writer means you get to live vicariously through your characters

My mother, who is a pianist and a fine artist, purchased a piano for me. Twice. This was back when I was a small girl. Pianos, of course, came complete with the quintessential piano teacher who whacked my hand with a stick each time I struck the wrong key. I learned a few pieces, yes, but eventually my pen compelled me to write too much and the sound of the leaves rustling in the wind compelled me to climb trees too often. Sorry mom. Coincidentally, books come from trees and flipping the pages sounds like wind through leaves... hhhmmmm... I guess I__ still just climbing trees now, but in a different way!

If I don't stay in and write, I feel like a prisoner.

There are times when I can't believe how much ridiculous stuff happens to me and how brilliant it is to be in a position to write about it.

When a person sets out to learn from others and not to teach others he becomes a true writer.

Sometimes I don't even know why I'm writing what I'm writing...I'm just following these people around and taking notes.
